I don’t have to tell anyone that we’re smack dab in the middle of some deep sh!t with the Corona outbreak. But no gloom and doom here. I’ll leave that to those that do that the best. Sure I worry. Sure I’m concerned. I’m all the things but I absolutely, will not, let it consume me.

We’re all (or at least many of us) are on lockdown. But life goes on gang. Life goes on. I, as a home-based graphic design studio owner, haven’t been affected much by the lock down. I’m used to being home, so except for going out to meetings and things, I’m pretty much business as usual. I have projects to start, continue and complete. The biggest change I have right now is that I now have co-workers. It’s challenging at times but nothing that can’t be over come. Life goes on.

Prior to the lockdown, TJ, Jamie and I got together to poke some fun at a couple of ridiculous theories out there about catching the Corona and protecting ourselves from it. You can see that video on the 3 Guys YouTube Channel. This is a photo of that day. Little did we know that that would be the last time we’d be able to get together because I believe it was two or three days later we were put on lock down.

Oh the lockdown hasn’t stopped us from getting together though. We’ve done a couple of virtual get-togethers using Facebook live on our Facebook page. We’ve invited friends and have had some really great fun doing it. As I said before. Life goes on. We may not be physically together, but we’re together.

One thing the three of us talked about is that during this lockdown, we’ll be given the opportunity to not only try some tasty, or not so tasty, beers but write them up too. I love doing it, but for some reason I’d gotten away from it. So this post will cover the beers I’ve had during the first week+ of the Covid-19 lockdown.

So let’s go. In no particular order.

North High Brewing Road Irish Red – Perfect blend of medium roasted malt, light amber color, some chocolate notes. 4.7% ABV. I give this beer a 3 on our scale.

Half Acre Brewing Daisy Cutter Pale Ale – Blended pine, citrus, papaya and mango. Dank. Apparent biscuit, lingering, obscenely dry. 5.2% ABV. I gave this beer a solid 3.5 on our scale. Super drinkable.

Cigar City Brewing Guayaber, Citra Pale Ale. 5.5% ABV. Although not my taste, this beer was surprisingly good. I think it would be nice on a hot summer day. I give this beer a 2.5 on our scale.

Left Hand Brewing Galactic Cowboy Nitro Imperial Stout. This is high-octane stout. 9% ABV. This beer was super tasty. Left Hand never disappoints with their beer. I give this beer a solid 4.5% on our scale.

Mad Tree Brewing Knotty Brown, Brown Ale. 7% ABV. This beer for me, hit the sweet spot. It’s right where I like my beers. I give the beer a 4.5 on our scale.

This is Oliver, our boy cat. He was needing attention the day I shot this and would not leave me alone. He jumped up and wanted to be part of the picture. This was the day after one of our Facebook live get-togethers. Needless to say it was a  pretty good night.

Rogue Ales Yellow Snow Pilsner. 5.5% ABV. I give this beer a 3.5 on our scale.
Krombacher Pils 4.8% ABV. I give this beer a 3.5 on our scale.
Half Acre Brewing Daisy Cutter (listed above)
Waterloo Brewing, Waterloo Dark 5% ABV. This beer is one of my all time favorites. I give this beer a 4 on our scale.
Masthead Brewing Single Origin Coffee Stout. 6.9% ABV. This is also on the list of one of my all time favs. I give this beer a 4.5% on our scale.

Saucy Brew Works, Whats His Nuts Vanilla Stout with Peanut Butter and Coffee. 7.5% ABV. This beer came to me by a recommendation from a friend. When we’re able to see each other again, I’ll be sure to thank him. It’s super good. I give this beer a 4 on our scale.

Earnest Brew Works The Spice Is Right, Blonde Spiced Winter Ale. 7.3% ABV. This was surprisingly good. I happened to have it on Taco Tuesday and I think it was the perfect choice. I give this beer a 3 on our scale.

Sibling Revelry Brewing, Mocha Oatmeal Stout. 6.5% ABV. I think this may have been the first beer I’ve had from this brewery and it won’t be my last. Man was this beer good. I give this beer a solid 4 on our scale.

This is Tula, our girl cat. Like Oliver earlier, she needed attention on this day. Or maybe she just wanted to strike a pose. I needed some help with a website I was developing that is hosted at WP Engine. These people and this company are fantastic. They always come through with stellar support when I need it. I’d mentioned that I use one of their pint glasses often in my shoots on my beer blog and would love one of their cool ass shirts. Well… a few days later I was surprised with a package at my door. They hooked me up with said cool ass shirt and a new pint glass. Thanks WP Engine! You’re the best.

Seems like an awful lot of beer in one week. In all fairness to me though, this could be more like 9 days. One plus about being locked in is that it gives me the opportunity to not only enjoy some beers but it allows me to get things checked off of that never-ending to-do list.

So far I’ve been able to get the dining room spruced up for spring with new paint, some rearranging, new light switches and finally getting curtains that we’d bought ages ago, hemmed and hung. I’ve also been able to tackle cleaning the basement. This is one of the jobs you need to do in phases though. I’ve got the biggest room cleared and cleaned. We were even able to put in what I call the “bunker.” This is where we’ve stored our lockdown supplies and necessities. This basement project will continue and eventually completed because once the warmer weather hits, I’m out!

So… life goes on. We all need to remain calm, use our heads, wash our hands and maintain that social and physical distancing. We’ll all get through this and at the end of it… we can all toast with a beer. Or 4 or 9.

Cheers.
